For your audition, prepare 16-32 bars of a song similar in style to the show.  A portion of the script will be used for reading lines for the part you are auditioning.  
The following is a list of characters.  We are auditioning for all characters.

 

 

All Characters:


Lead Characters
Tevye Male Lead (Bass/Baritone)

Adult Male (45-60)
Tevye is the likable, hard-working, pious dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life.  He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures.

Golde Female Lead (Mezzo-Soprano)
Adult Female (40-50)
Golde is Tevye’s strong-willed wife who wishes for her daughters to have good husbands and live easier then she and Tevye.

Tzeitel Female Lead (Mezzo Soprano)
Adult Female (18-25)

Tzeitel is Tevye’s eldest daughter, who is madly in love with Motel.  She is loyal to her family but typically changes the town’s traditions.

Hodel Female Lead (Mezzo Soprano)
Adult Female (18-23)

Hodel is Tevye’s second eldest daughter, who becomes involved with Perchik.  She eventually leaves Anatevka to join Perchik in Siberia.

Chava Female Lead (Mezzo Soprano)
Young Adult Female(15-20)
Chava is Tevye’s middle daughter who loves to read.  Falls in love and runs off with Fydeka, a Russian soldier.

 


Supporting Characters
Lazar Wolf Supporting Male (Baritone)
Adult Male (40-50)

Lazar Wolf is the feisty, brawny butcher and the town's wealthiest citizen who wishes to marry Tzeitel.

Motel Supporting Male (Tenor)
Adult Male (18-25)
Motel is the poor and meek tailor who shares a deep love with Tzeitel. Sensitive and nervous, but sincere and friendly.

Fyedka Supporting Male (Non-Singing)
Adult Male (20-25)

Fyedka is a strong, young Russian soldier who sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challenges Tevye's imposed silence.

Constable Supporting Male (Speaking)
Adult Male (35-45)

The constable is a Russian military official stationed near Anatevka who knows the villagers well, however he has superficial relationships with the villagers.

Perchik Supporting Male (Tenor)
Adult Male (20-30)

Perchik is the outspoken student and visitor to Anatevka, who constantly challenges the traditions of the town. He eventually falls in love with Hodel.

Yente Supporting Female(Alto)
Adult Female (50-60)

Yente is the meddling matchmaker. She is a widow and village busybody who knows all of the town gossip.

The Rabbi is a source of spiritual guidance and wisdom for the towns people of Anatevka.

Grandma Tzeitel Featured Female (Mezzo Soprano)
Adult Female (60-75)

Grandma Tzeitel is Golde's deceased grandmother, who endorses the marriage between Tzeitel and Motel.

Fruma-Sarah Featured Female (Mezzo Soprano)
Adult Female (35-45)

Fruma-Sarah is Lazar's Wolf's deceased first wife. She becomes enraged when her husband plans to wed Tzeitel.

Nachum Featured Male (Speaking)
Adult Male (20-50)

Nachum is the towns bigger.

Yussel Featured Male (Speaking)
Adult Male (20-50)

Yussel is the town hatter.  

Shaindel Featured Female (Speaking)
Adult Female (40-50) 

Shaindel is the mother of Motel.

 Friend of Fyedka and a fellow soldier.

Mendel Featured Male (Speaking)

Mendel is the Rabbi’s son.

Mordcha runs the local bar in town and is a friend of Tevye

Avram Featured Male (Barritone)
Adult Male (40-60)

Avram runs the local bookshop and keeps the town advised of all the news in the area.

Bielke Featured Female (Alto)
Tween Female (8-12)

Tevye's youngest daughter. Takes lessons at home from Perchik.

Shprintze Featured Female (Alto)
Tween Female (9-13)

Tevye's fouth eldest daughter who takes lessons at home from Perchik.

Fiddler Featured Male (Silent)
Adult Male (15-50)

The fiddler appears, playing music on a roof to show the delicate balance of life in Anatevka.
